What is Personal Financial Planning?

Good Afternoon!

Today we are back with another workshop that I hope you find helpful and enlightening.

Earlier this week, someone asked about how to find a financial advisor to help them meet their goals.

As usual, what you should look for and expect when considering help was a bit confusing for a few members.

I’ve discussed fiduciary standards vs. suitability standards when it comes to advisor regulation before.

We’ve also discussed different financial advisor fee models and how you may pay for advice.

When it comes down to it, what you should really be looking for is an advisor that practices Personal Financial Planning.

What is Personal Financial Planning?

I’m glad you asked!

That’s what our workshop is on today!

While fee model (commission, fee-based-also known as commission and fee, fee-only) are one consideration,

There are advisors that may be targeted experts in a particular subject matter like investments or insurance and there are comprehensive financial planners.

As someone that is planning for retirement, if you are only receiving advice on one aspect you may be missing a crucial piece of your retirement puzzle.

Starting today, we will be diving into what you should be aware of and looking for when selecting a financial advisor (ideally a Certified Financial Planner™), and how to make sense of what can be a bit confusing (and very large) decision.

Enjoy!
